This large Black Oak bowl came from a tree that fell down in my back yard. Although it looked healthy, once I cut it up, you could see evidence of the disease that was killing it. It formed interesting patterns in the wood causing some minor defects in the surface. Even with a food safe finish, I would be reluctant to serve anything moist in it. The bowl might best be utilized serving dry items such as bread or crackers or simply as a coffee table display holding whatever you want to put in it.
