I love the way this Black Oak platter turned out! It is made from the large Black Oak tree that fell down in our backyard after the heavy rains of this winter. I turned it to the final shape while the wood was still green and quickly applied several coats of Mahoney's Walnut Oil to keep the wood moist and slow down the drying process. The platter did warp a bit and turn slightly oval, but for a green turned oak platter it was remarkably stable. The finish is food safe.
