MAPLE

MAPLE 16

$150.00

This large vase-shaped Maple bowl is unique. The grain patterns change as you go around the surface. There is some slight spalting and chatoyance to add intrigue. The finish is satin smooth and feels wonderful to the touch! WOOD: Maple; DIAMETER: 12 1/2"; HEIGHT: 8 1/4"; WEIGHT: 1 Pound 12 Ounces.

Maple 7

$200.00

This spalted Silver Maple bowl has amazing accents. The accents or "zone lines" are created when a fungus spreads within the wood. I had several pieces of silver maple sitting outside waiting to turn. Some moisture must have entered the wood causing the spalting I caught it just in time to create these fantastic accents. This bowl is fairly thin and light. It is best used as an art piece. The wood is fully sealed with a Danish Oil finish. WOOD: Spalted Silver Maple. SIZE: 9 3/4" Diameter by 3 3/4" Tall.

MAPLE 10

$150.00
This Maple bowl stock was sitting in my shop for a few years.  It did not look very good, but after blowing off the cobwebs and dust I decided to turn it or toss it.  WOW!  What an amazing gem was hidden inside of it!  It has two contrasting rings burned into the rim and a food safe finish.  It could serve as a fruit display bowl or a salad bowl or simply a nice piece of art.  WOOD: Maple; SIZE: 11 1/2" Diameter by 3" Tall; WEIGHT: 1 1/2 Pounds.

MAPLE 15 - "Maple Leaf Bowl"

$200.00
This large Silver Maple bowl turned out quite well. Julie decided to burn some Maple leaves on the Maple wood. She did a great job. For a large 13" bowl it is quite light. It could be used as a salad bowl if you don't want to display it as art. It has a food safe finish.  WOOD:  Silver Maple. SIZE: 13" Diameter By 4 1/2" Tall.  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 9 Ounces.
(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

Maple 8

$200.00
ID: MAPLE 8  Mother nature has graced this wood with some truly beautiful spalting patterns (fungal zone lines). Different patterns are viewed from any angle, including a small bark patch left on the final turning. The light-weight bowl is best suited as an art object. It is sealed with a Danish Oil finish. These are one-of-a-kind bowl.  WOOD: Spalted Silver Maple.  SIZE: 10 1/4" Diameter by 3 1/2" Tall.

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

Maple 2

$225.00
This Silver Maple bowl is cut from the same wood as my "flagship" bowl. The hollow form shape emphasizes the unusual brown wood color in the Silver Maple. It also displays a unique pattern on the side as the decay began to spread into the healthy white wood.  PRICE: $225.  WOOD: Silver Maple.  SIZE: 8 1/4" Diameter by 6" Tall.

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

MAPLE 3

$125.00
This natural edge Silver Maple bowl was turned from a narrow slice of tree. I took the entire log and mounted it on the lathe lengthwise. Usually, you cut the log in half in the direction of the pith and cut into the side of the log. Cutting into the end grain is a bit more tricky. Drying the wet wood is even more challenging. As it dries the wood wants to move and crack around the pith. In this case the pith was off-center and minimal cracking occurred. The bowl does not sit flat, but that also adds to the interest in this piece.  PRICE: $125.  WOOD: Silver Maple.  SIZE: 12 1/2" (widest) by 2" Tall.  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 7 Ounces.

MAPLE 4

"Bowl-in-a-board"  NFS  In a private collection.  I have several other blanks turned that need to be sanded and finished. Stay turned if you are interested in seeing more Maple bowls like this one.

Maple 17

$175.00

This large Spalted Maple bowl is quite unique because of the random spalting throughout the wood. It sat for almost three years drying before I decided to final turn it. The spalting pattern emerged making for an excellent serving bowl/conversation piece. It has a food safe finish and would work well as a large salad bowl or display bowl. WOOD: Spalted Silver Maple; DIAMETER: 14 3/8"; HEIGHT: 5": WEIGHT: 1 Pound 14 Ounces.

Maple 18

$50.00

This small Spalted Silver Maple bowl exhibits fun spalting patterns throughout. It is a lovely shape and fairly light. It would be perfect for holding you small precious items. WOOD: Spalted Silver Maple: DIAMETER: 4"; HEIGHT: 2 1/4"; WEIGHT: 3 Ounces.

Maple 19

$40.00

This small Spalted Maple bowl is amazing no matter how you look at it. The heavy spalting pattern is apparent throughout. WOOD: Spalted Maple; DIAMETER: 3 3/4"; HEIGHT: 2 "; WEIGHT: 3 Ounces.

Maple 21

$90.00

This amazing Maple and Mahogany lidded box is a great collaborative effort between me and Julie. The Curly Maple box has tremendous interest without the wonderful grape leaf pattern Julie burned on the side. It is topped off with a nice piece of Mahogany and a Maple knob. The burned grape leaves are done with a dark background giving the pattern a leather-like look after finish is applied and it is polished. The chatoyance (shimmering) in the Curly Maple is remarkable. WOOD: CurlyMaple/Mahogany; DIAMETER: 6 1/2"; HEIGHT: 3"; WEIGHT: 12 Ounces.

OAK

OAK 25

$150.00
You can tell from the number of photos of this bowl that I find it special. I had a couple of Cork Oak logs that sat around too long. When I finally had an opportunity to turn them the wood was starting to get punky. I was concerned that the bowls would be junk and not worth turning. Boy was I surprised with the unique spalting in the wood! This one is reserved for a private collection. I have one more turned with two more pieces of wood to turn.  NFS  WOOD: Spalted Cork Oak  SIZE: 8" Diameter by 5 1/2" Tall  WEIGHT: 9 Ounces.

OAK 50

$75.00
I hesitate to add this funky bowl to my collection, but it certainly is interesting!  I took an Oak bowl littered with worm holes and did an experiment.  I filled them with black colored two-part epoxy to see what it would look like.  It didn't look very good and was destined to hold nuts and bolts in my shop.  Julie looked at it and saw a ZEBRA!  After much creative burning she successfully cover up the black epoxy with this lovely zebra.  I, then, covered up the outside with red milk paint.  It took about five coats to completely cover the epoxy.  This is not a perfect bowl, but it is a great example of Julie's art!  WOOD: Oak; DIAMETER: 10"; HEIGHT: 3"; WEIGHT: 13 Ounces.

Oak 2 - "The Butterfly Bowl"

$90.00
This fairly heavy Valley Oak shallow bowl exhibits some very funky grain. It was turned from a crotch piece of wood where various forces have caused the wood grain to swirl around almost like human hairs. It was still a bit wet when turned. The final drying process caused some interesting movement in the wood. It is a joy to hold and look at the grain patterns. Julie saw a butterfly in the markings on this bowl and with a very subtle use of the wood burner made it into a beautiful butterfly!  WOOD: Valley Oak  SIZE: 9 1/4" Diameter by 1 3/4" Tall  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 1 Ounce
(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

OAK 19 - "The Dream Catcher Bowl"

$125.00
Julie is continuing with her Native American theme with this Dream Catcher burned into the side of this large Valley Oak bowl. The burning is sealed with a food safe finish. The bowl is a perfect size for salads if you need it to be useful as well as a piece of art. It exhibits all of the nice grain, color, and character of Valley Oak .  WOOD: Oak  SIZE: 10 7/8" Diameter by 3 1/2" Tall  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 2 Ounces.

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

Oak 22 - "The Tree of Life"

$90.00
The stripe down the middle of this Black Oak bowl adds interest. It is not from the pith of the tree which would be close to the rim of the bowl so it must be from some type of wound near the bark of the tree that has since healed over. Julie decided that the stripe looked like a tree and burned this nice image of an oak tree in the bowl.  The top edge has a raised rim adding character to the bowl. The bottom has a second raise ring complementing the effect. The bowl has a food safe finish.  WOOD: Oak  SIZE: 10 1/2" Diameter by 3 1/8" Tall  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 1 Ounce.

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

OAK 44 - "Dream Catcher"

$125.00
This interesting crotch piece of Live Oak is enhance by Julie's burning of some feathers.  The feathers set off the darker portions of the wood without obscuring the intricate grain patterns of the crotch.  The finish is super smooth and food safe.  This is one of my favorite recent bowls!  WOOD: Live Oak; DIAMETER: 12 1/8"; HEIGHT: 2 1/2": WEIGHT: 1 Pound 10 Ounces.

Oak 1

$75.00
This is my very first natural edge bowl. It is made from Oak and has many distinctive features including a slightly raised rim that goes through the bark as well as the visible knot and some small cracks and even moss still on the bark! I love how it turned out. I have done several more natural edge bowls since completing this one.  WOOD: Oak.  SIZE: 6" Diameter by 4 1/2" Tall.

Oak 3 - "Bowl in a Board"

$100.00
ID: Oak 3  This Oak "bowl-in-a-board" is the first one I turned using Oak. Oak has more of a tendency to crack than Maple. As it dried the board edges started to warp, but no major cracks appeared other than the dark streak visible on the board. The flying edges and bark make it more of a challenge to finish. I love the results. The beveled edge at the bowl rim gives it a sleek look. The bowl is rather thick providing the piece with a solid weighty feel.  PRICE: $100.  WOOD:  Oak.  SIZE: 10" x 11" by 2 1/2" Tall.

Oak 11

$150.00 $125.00
ID: Oak 11  This large Valley Oak bowl is perfect for use as a salad bowl or a fresh fruit bowl or just to hold stuff. The rim groove was first cut into the bowl and then burned by holding a copper wire in the groove while spinning the bowl. It turned out nicely. This is one of my favorite "all purpose" bowls.  PRICE: $150.  WOOD:  Valley Oak.  SIZE: 12 1/2" Diameter by 3" Tall.

Oak 16

$85.00

ID: Oak 16 This large Valley Oak bowl is made from the same wood harvested for the Oak 9 Bowl. Notice the common crack. A red colored epoxy was used to fill the crack and a few insect holes on this bowl. It has the same beautiful grain and spalting at Oak 9. The finish is very smooth and food safe should you choose to use this as a salad or fruit bowl. PRICE: $85 WOOD: Valley Oak SIZE: 11 1/4" Diameter by 3 1/4" Tall WEIGHT: 1 Pound 7 Ounces

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

Oak 20

$90.00
ID: Oak 20  This Valley Oak bowl has a slightly turned in rim. The rim gives it a good grip making it perfect for salads or other "mixing bowl" items. It has a food safe finish. It exhibits all of the nice grain, color, and character of Valley Oak.   PRICE: $90  WOOD: Oak  SIZE: 10 1/4" Diameter by 4 1/2" Tall  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 6 Ounces.

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

Oak 21

$100.00
ID: Oak 21  I call this Valley Oak bowl the "Dragon Fly" bowl! This is one of those undiscovered features you can only find once you start turning the bowl. Some old branch formation transformed into a beautiful dragon fly as the bowl was spinning. It has a food safe finish. Now it has a dual personality as "The Apple Bowl", too! Julie burned this apple on the inside to add some interest to it.  PRICE: $100  WOOD: Oak  SIZE: 10 3/4" Diameter by 3 5/8" Tall  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 5 Ounces.

WALNUT

Walnut 26

$125.00

This Black Walnut Burl bowl is truly one-of-a-kind. It was turned from a piece of very wet burl (recently dug out of the ground) and set aside for two years to dry. Because it was so wet it warped quite a bit and looked almost unturnable. I gave it a try because the burl was so interesting and this rather odd shaped bowl emerged. WOOD: Black Walnut Burl; DIAMETER: 11 1/2"; HEIGHT: 4"; WEIGHT: 14 Ounces.

Walnut 1

$45.00
This small Walnut bowl is beautiful. It is all solid heart wood with lovely grain patterns. The hollowed and elevated base makes it seem a bit larger than the dimensions suggest. It can be displayed as a piece of art or used as a candy dish or to hold your change or keys.  WOOD: Walnut.  SIZE: 6" Diameter by 2" Tall.

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

Walnut 3

$100.00
This lovely medium sized Walnut bowl was turned from a log harvest from a tree in front of the George M. Schultz Ice Rink in Santa Rosa. It is nicknamed "Snoopy Wood". George Schultz lived in Santa Rosa and created his Peanuts cartoons from here. This beautiful bowl has one significant crack that has been filled with copper colored epoxy turning it into an interesting accent feature.  WOOD: Claro Walnut  SIZE: 9 3/4" Diameter by 5" Tall  WEIGHT: 2 Pounds

Walnut 14 - "The Great Blue Heron Bowl"

$40.00

This small Walnut bowl has an interesting pattern formed by the heart wood. I gave it a slightly flared rim to add interest. It has a high polish finish. Julie burned an image of the Great Blue Heron which is the mascot of our beloved Laguna de Santa Rosa. It will be on display there in September 2020 during her one-woman art show. WOOD: Walnut. SIZE: 2 3/8" Tall by 6" in Diameter. WEIGHT: 4 Ounces.

$65.00

This medium-sized Walnut bowl has lovely grain. it is light and smooth to the touch. It has a high polish finish. Walnut 18

$45.00
This small Walnut bowl has a rich dark walnut color and a few worm holes.  All are filled except for one at the rim (don't ask me why I left that one unfilled - for interest?). The bowl has a rounded bottom with a slight indent allowing it to stand erect. It is fairly robust and could be used to hold jut about anything you like. It has a food safe high polish finish.  WOOD: Walnut.  SIZE: 3" Tall by 6" in Diameter.  WEIGHT: 6 Ounces.

REDWOOD

REDWOOD 1

$250.00
This intriguing piece of Redwood burl was turned from a ragged block of wood picked up at our local wood turners club meeting.  Because of the ragged bark side I decided to make a natural edge bowl and leave the bark intact.  The flared trumpet shaped worked well for this piece.  The top half of sap wood is very pretty while the lower half of heart wood not only has beautiful grain, but it also has a second level iridescence visible as you turn the piece in your hand.  It is very light and would be best displayed as the work of art it is.  I love this piece!  PRICE: $250.  WOOD: Redwood Burl.  SIZE: 7 1/4" Diameter by 8" Tall.  WEIGHT: 9 Ounces.

(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

REDWOOD 6

$200.00
This huge Redwood bowl is made from the same tree as Redwood 5.  It has some of the amazing figuring and is even larger.  Three decorative rings are cut and burned into the outside to help accentuate the size of the bowl.  It could be used as a decorative art piece or as a salad bowl.  The finish is food safe.  WOOD: Redwood; DIAMETER: 13 1/4"; Height: 8 1/4"; Weight: 3 Pounds 6 Ounces.

Redwood 4

$75.00
This lovely lace burl redwood bowl is turned fairly thick to give it some heft. An "inside grip" was used when turning it.  Thus the bottom has a recessed cut.  The true character of the wood is revealed as you turn it in your hand and view the grain and textures from different angles.  WOOD: Redwood Burl.  SIZE: 6/7/8" Diameter by 2 1/4" Tall.  Weight: 11 Ounces.

REDWOOD 14

$100.00

This nicely formed Redwood bowl has two rings cut and burned into the rim serving as an accent. It also has a knot hole filled with copper colored two-part epoxy creating a smooth and durable finish suitable for serving salads or other food items. The finish, as always, is food safe. WOOD: Redwood; DIAMETER: 12 1/4"; HEIGHT: 6 1/4"; WEIGHT: 1 Pound 5 Ounces.

REDWOOD 11

$100.00
The uniquely shaped Redwood bowl can serve many purposes.  With the raised pedestal it could hold a nice fruit arrangement or an assortment of collectible items.  The finish is food safe if you choose to place food items in it.  WOOD: Redwood; SIZE: 11 5/8" Diameter by 3 3/8" Tall  WEIGHT: 12 Ounces.

REDWOOD 10

$100.00
This large Redwood bowl has a nice raised rim.  It is shaped to serve well as a large salad bowl or whatever else you may want to place in it.  The finish is food safe.  WOOD: Redwood; SIZE: 12 5/8" Diameter; 3 3/4" Tall; WEIGHT: 1 Pound 3 Ounces.

REDWOOD 12

$150.00
This very large Redwood bowl is also quite substantial.  Redwood tends to be light because it shades toward a softwood.  I turned this one particularly thick (over 3/4" thick) to give it some heft.  It would make a great salad bowl or simply a nice display bowl.  WOOD: Redwood; SIZE: 14 1/4" Diameter by 5 3/4" Tall; WEIGHT: 3 1/2 Pounds.

REDWOOD 13

$125.00
This large and unique Redwood bowl has some interesting markings.  In addition to the three "branch knots" it has a gray marking that reminds of The Rolling Stones logo!  It would make an excellent salad bowl.  It has a food safe finish. WOOD: Redwood; SIZE: 13 3/3" Diameter by 4" Tall; WEIGHT: 1 1/2 Pounds.

REDWOOD 2

$65.00
This laminated Redwood bowl is made from cutoff pieces from our new Redwood deck. I have experimented with laminating Redwood in the past with good results. This piece has six 2" x 6" boards laminated and then turned through the side of the board. The resulting end grain displays a pattern I was hoping to see as I glued the wood together.  It is a fairly thick and substantial piece considering it is rather soft dried Redwood. I have some other prototypes in the works and expect to make many more laminated Redwood vessels.  PRICE: $65.  WOOD: Laminated Redwood Boards.  SIZE: 7 3/4" Diameter by 5" Tall
(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

REDWOOD 3

$0.00
This small Redwood bowl was the first one I made using laminated boards. It was an experiment, but it turned out well. With many artists saying they liked the effect I decided to add laminated Redwood bowls to my collection. This particular one was donated to the Sonoma Arts Guild for a fundraiser and it sold quickly. It is difficult to see the end grain effect in these pictures. Look at Redwood 2 to see the effect.

REDWOOD 5

$200.00
This large and highly figured Redwood bowl is quite unique. You can see from the number of photos I have that I think it is special. The special figuring on one side was created as this section of the Redwood tree was under unusual stress. The bowl has a raised rim and is turned rather thick (over 3/8") and yet it is fairly light. It would make a wonderful display piece or a salad bowl. The finish is food safe.  WOOD: Redwood Burl.  SIZE: 13 1/4" Diameter by 5 3/4" Tall.  Weight: 2 Pounds 4 Ounces.

Redwood 16

$90.00

This large shallow Redwood bowl is very light and would work well as a serving tray or catch all. It has two rings burned into the rim. The finish is food safe. WOOD: Redwood; DIAMETER: 13 3/8"; HEIGHT: 2 1/4"; WEIGHT: 15 Ounces.

ASH

ASH 8

$95.00
Julie has done her magic again on this wonderful Ash bowl.  It was turned from a crotch piece of Ash which, all by itself, makes a fine bowl.  I intentionally created a wide rim for her burning.  She created the popular "grape vine" design with the signature wine bottle and glasses.  This is the perfect gift for any wine lover!  WOOD: Ash; DIAMETER: 7 3/4"; HEIGHT: 3"; WEIGHT: 12 Ounces.

ASH 9

$175.00

This large Ash bowl was made from a crotch section of the tree where two branches came together. The resulting "flame" pattern down the middle is quite dramatic. It has a food safe finish. It could be used as a serving bowl or as an art/display piece. WOOD: Ash; DIAMETER: 13"; HEIGHT; 5 3/8"; WEIGHT: 2 Pounds 9 Ounces.

ASH 10

$150.00

This large Ash bowl is decorated with Julie's popular "Leaf Pattern". It is a substantial bowl that could be used for just about anything. WOOD: Ash; DIAMETER: 13"; HEIGHT: 6"; WEIGHT: 2 Pounds 9 Ounces.

ASH 11

$125.00

This large but light Ash bowl has some nicely balanced grain patterns along with a rolled top edge to make it comfortable for lifting. A small amount of bark was left on the bottom as another accent item. This very hard and durable bowl would be perfect to use as a large salad bowl or hold everything bowl. WOOD: Ash; SIZE: 13 3/4" Diameter by 7 1/4" Tall; WEIGHT: 3 Pounds 2 Ounces.

ASH 13 - "Smiling Bandit"

$150.00

This large Ash bowl has a raised rim with a burned pattern. The branch inclusion happened to make a smile on the outside. The finish is food safe and suitable to be used as a salad or serving bowl.Ash is a very durable wood. WOOD: Ash; SIZE: 12 1/2" Diameter by 6" Tall; WEIGHT: 2 Pounds 6 Ounces.

ASH 12 - "Butterfly Bowl"

$95.00

This large Ash bowl has a branch inclusion and drying cracks. I liked the bowl, but the cracks concerned me. When Julie took a look at it she immediately saw the butterfly. Then, in order to mask the cracks she added a lovely sunrise. Because of the cracks it is priced lower than normal. It would be a good hold everything bowl or a nice display bowl. WOOD: Ash; SIZE: 9" Diameter by 5" Tall; WEIGHT: 1 Pound 6 Ounces.

Ash 14 - The Flying Saucer

$85.00

Own your personal Flying Saucer! This medium-sized Ash hollow form is a good display piece. It was hollowed through a hole just under 1" in diameter. Not an easy feat. Ash takes a wonderful finish and is very hard and durable. The opening has a raised rim detail that adds to the intrigue. WOOD: Ash; DIAMETER: 7"; HEIGHT: 3"; WEIGHT: 11 Ounces.

Ash 16 - The Grape Vine

$55.00

This Ash platter has a slightly raised rim with a beautiful grape vine pattern burned into it by our resident artist. It would work well serving cheeses with your wine tasting. Ash is such a durable wood that this platter should last for generations. The finish is food safe. WOOD: Ash; SIZE: 9" Diameter by 1" Tall; WEIGHT: 8 Ounces.

ASH 17

$65.00

This lovely Ash platter has a ring of flowers burned into the rim. Although the flower design is delicate the Ash wood is very hard and durable. It has a food safe finish and could be used as a serving dish. WOOD: Ash; SIZE: 8 3/4"Diameter by 1 1/2" Tall; WEIGHT: 9 Ounces.

ASH 18

$75.00

This shallow Ash bowl has a landscape view reflected in a pond. The small knot in the upper right depicts the sun shining down upon the pond. You could display this bowl or use it to serve food. The finish is food safe and the Ash wood is very durable. It should help uplift you every time you look at it. WOOD: Ash; SIZE: 8 3/4" Diameter by 2" Tall; WEIGHT: 8 Ounces.

BLACK LOCUST 4 "The Duck Platter"

$60.00
This interesting platter was turned from a green piece of Black Locust.  It has moved a little bit and is not entirely flat.  Julie noticed an interesting pattern in the wood grain and decide to enhance it to make it more obvious. Nice job!  WOOD: Black Locust: DIAMETER: 12 1/2"; HEIGHT: 1/2"; WEIGHT: 1 Pound 1 Ounce.

Liquidambar 3 - "Sweet Gum Bowl"

$125.00
This large Liquidambar (Sweet Gum) bowl is very light and could be used as a nice salad bowl.  Julie decided to burn an intricate leaf patter on the outside including the Sweet Gum seed pods. It should make for an interesting conversation piece with guests. The bowl has a food safe finish.  WOOD: Liquidambar (Sweet Gum).  SIZE: 12 7/8" Diameter By 3 1/4" Tall. WEIGHT: 1 Pound 2 Ounces.
(Click on any picture to enlarge.)

Liquidambar 2 - "Grape Leaf Bowl"

$175.00
This lovely Liquid Amber bowl (also known as Sweetgum) was turned with a broad rim to allow Julie to burn a design.  She chose to to do a grape theme to express our love for living in Wine Country.  This is one of my favorite bowls done by Julie.  WOOD: Liquidambar  SIZE: 10 1/2" Diameter by 3 3/8" Tall  WEIGHT: 1 Pound 1 Ounce.

Liquidambar 1 - "Burned Leaf Bowl"

$175.00

BLACK LOCUST 5 - "Dew Drops"

$125.00
This large Black Locust platter was final turned with green wood.  It was treated with Odie's Oil to minimize wood movement as it dried.  There is some slight bowing to the platter.  Julie saw ripples on a pond in the wood grain and enhanced the platter with some leaves and dew drops falling into the pond.  I think it is amazing!  WOOD: Black Locust; DIAMETER: 13"; HEIGHT: 1 1/2"; WEIGHT: 1 Pound 13 Ounces.

BLACK LOCUST 3

MULBERRY 10 - "The 9/11 Bowl"

I made this unusual Pear bowl for a friend who gave me the wood. He asked if I could cut a piece off of the end of the log to make a bowl.
