ID: MAPLE 1 This is my "flagship" bowl. It is made from Silver Maple harvested from a tree that was dying. Many of the pieces were clearly rotted and likely not good candidates for turning. Nonetheless, I harvested several logs to see what I could do with them. As I was turning this piece I could not get it to spin in a balanced manner even after cutting it round. As I started to hollow it a large void became visible. This was the cause of the imbalanced weight of the bowl. I continued to cut through the void very carefully. The resulting bowl has an abundance of character It was accepted in a juried exhibit called "Vessels" at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts and on display for several weeks. Notice the quilting found around the branch inclusion. I doubt if you will ever see another bowl like this one. WOOD: Silver Maple. SIZE: 8 3/4" Diameter by 7" Tall.
